Providence College Women’s Cross Country Place Second At
BIG EAST Championships


Catarina Rocha finished second at the championships.


CARMEL, Ind. - The Providence College women's cross country team finished second of 10 teams at the BIG EAST Championships in Carmel, Ind. on Friday, Oct. 31. Sophomore Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass) was the standout performer for the Friars. Rocha placed second in a time of 20:40.0.


Freshman Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) was next to finish for Providence. Lembo ran a time of 21:10.9 over the 6km course and placed 10th to earn All-BIG EAST honors (top-15 finishers receive the honor).


The third and fourth Friars across the line were junior Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) and freshmen Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia), respectively. Mullins crossed the line in a time of 21:25.5 to place 14th and also received All-BIG EAST honors. Ilarda was two places behind Mullins in 16th-place (21:32.0).


Junior Katie Sischo (Jamesville, N.Y.) was the next Providence runner. Sischo finished 26th (22:00.7). Freshman Mackenzie Barry (Mendham, N.J.) finished one place behind Keating in 27th with a time of 22:01.6.


Rounding out the Friars top seven, senior Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) finished 28th (22:07.0).


The Providence women finished the race with a total of 65 points.


“I’m very pleased with the effort from the women,” said head coach Ray Treacy. “We had improved performances all around. Cat especially had a great run and has been getting better every week. We will now move onto regionals and look for another good performance.”


Next up for the Friars is the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships in Van Cordlandt Park, Bronx, N.Y. on Friday, Nov. 14. Races are set to go off at 11:00 a.m. and teams will fight to secure bids for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.  The top-two teams at regionals will secure automatic bids to nationals.
