Providence College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Sweep BIG EAST Weekly Awards


Thomas O’Neill and Katie Lembo named BIG EAST Cross Country Athletes of the Week.


New York, N.Y. – The BIG EAST Conference announced the first BIG EAST Male and Female Athletes of the Week for cross country for the 2014 season on Sept. 9. Providence freshmen swept the awards for the week with Thomas O’Neill (Middletown, N.J.) receiving the BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week and Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) earning the BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week.


O’Neill earned the honor after winning his first collegiate race at the University of New Hampshire on Aug. 30. O’Neill completed the 6k course in a time of 18:32.90 and helped the Friars win the team title.


Lembo received the honor after placing second overall in the women’s 5k race (17:39.90) at UNH and was the first Friar to cross the finish. She also helped the Friars tie the meet with UNH.
