Emily Sisson Named USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete of the Year For Indoor Track

Lauren Mullins, Katie Lembo and Laura Nagel received USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors.

New Orleans, La. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-Academic teams and Scholar Athletes of the Year today (July 17). Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) was named the Scholar Female Athlete of the Year for Indoor Track, while Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.), Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) and Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) each were named to the All-Academic Track & Field Team.

Sisson, a graduate student pursuing a master's in business administration, is the first woman from Providence to earn the Scholar Athlete of the Year honor in track & field. Sisson earned the honor for her accomplishments in the classroom combined (a 3.53 cumulative GPA during her time at Providence) and in competition during the recently completed academic year (2014-15). Sisson broke the collegiate indoor record in the 5,000 meters with a 15:12.22 to win the BIG EAST title, and went on to win the NCAA indoor title in March. She also ran the fifth-fastest time in history by a collegian in the 3,000 meters (8:52.60).

Scholar Athletes of the Year were selected as the highest-finishing performers at the NCAA Indoor & Outdoor Championships who also achieved USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual status. To earn All-Academic Individual status, student-athletes must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher and either have ranked in the top-96 in an individual event during the indoor season or have participated in any of the NCAA Division I Championships during the outdoor season.

Among a total of 838 women from 207 institutions, Mullins, a marketing/finance double major, Lembo, a biology major and Nagel, pursuing a masters in business administration, each earned a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team alongside Sisson.
