Emily Sisson Named BIG EAST Conference Nominee For NCAA Woman Of The Year

The NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced yesterday (July 23) that Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) was named the BIG EAST Conference nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.

Sisson became a two-time NCAA Champion during the 2014-15 indoor and outdoor track seasons after capturing both indoor and outdoor NCAA 5,000 meter titles. She also broke the NCAA Indoor 5,000-meter record (15:12.22) with a solo-effort at the BIG EAST Championship.

Sisson is among a list of 147 NCAA female student-athletes that have been named as honorees by their respective conference or independent schools. A total of 480 school nominees were put forward and of the 147 chosen, 57 are from Division I institutions.

The Woman of the Year selection committee will next select the top 10 honorees in each division. These top 30 honorees will be announced in early September.  The selection committee will then choose and announce the top nine finalists (three from each division) at the end of September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will vote from amongst those nine finalists to determine the 2015 Woman of the Year.

The top 30 honorees will be honored and the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named at the annual ceremony in Indianapolis on Oct. 18.
