The Friars finished 13th, 11th and 20th at the NCAA Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Championships, respectively.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced today (June 16) that the Providence College women’s cross country and track program finished sixth in the USTFCCCA Program Of The Year standings.

The 2014-15 season saw the women place 13th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, led by Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.), who earned All-America honors. Graduate-student Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) led the team indoors with her first NCAA title in the 5,000 meters and then a third-place finish in the 3,000 meters. Her first and third-place finishes gave the Friars an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championship. Sisson continued her form into the outdoor season, eventually winning the 5,000 meter outdoor title and helping the Friars capture a 20th-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championship.

The Friars, led by Head Coach Ray Treacy, finished with 47.5 points in the USTFCCCA Program of the Year Standings, behind Oregon (9 points), Arkansas (10 points), Stanford (35.5 points), Florida (42.5 points) and Wisconsin (47.5 points). The Providence women also were the only BIG EAST women’s team to finish in the top-17 of the standings.

The USTFCCCA Program of the Year award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in each academic year, spanning the cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field seasons, based on the institutions finish at the NCAA Championships. Scoring is based on the team’s finish at each NCAA Championship with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award recipient.
