Providence’s Emily Sisson and Julian Oakley Set To Compete At
2015 NCAA Indoor Championships

Emily Sisson will double in the 5,000 and 3,000 meter events, while Julian Oakley will compete in the mile.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College track athletes Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) and Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) will compete at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Mar. 13-14 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. Sisson will compete for a national title in both the 5,000 and 3,000 meter events, while Oakley will race in the mile.

Sisson, a graduate-student, is the favorite to win the 5,000 meters after breaking former Friar Kim Smith’s 2004 collegiate indoor record at the 2015 BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 28. Sisson ran a solo time of 15:12.22 to break the record by two seconds, which now ranks as the third fastest 5,000 meter time in the history of U.S. indoor track.

In the 3,000 meters, the 9x All-American will go in with the second-fastest time in the NCAA. Sisson ran 8:52.60 at the Millrose Games on Feb. 14 amongst a strong field. She placed fourth in that race and was the top American and collegian. Her time also was the fifth fastest 3,000 meter time in NCAA history and second fastest ever run at Providence College.

The women’s 5,000 meters will go off at 9:25 p.m. EST on Friday, Mar. 13, while the 3,000 meters is set for a 9:00 p.m. EST start on Saturday, Mar. 14.

Oakley will compete at his first ever NCAA Indoor Track Championships this weekend. With a seed time of 3:57.22, he ranks as the fourth-fastest on the NCAA leaderboard.

First, Oakley will compete in the mile semifinal at 7:15 p.m. EST on Friday, Mar. 13. To advance to the final at 7:10 p.m. EST on Saturday, Mar. 14, he will need to finish in the top-four of his heat for an automatic spot or have the next two fastest times.

The events will be streamed on ESPN3 starting at 7:00 p.m. EST both on Mar. 13 and 14. On March 23, a tape delay of the championship will be on ESPNU at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Live results of the event can be found here<http://www.ncaa.com/sites/default/files/external/track-field/results/d1/indoor15/index.htm>.
