Harvey Dixon Breaks Gibraltar National Record
Dixon finished first in his heat of the 1,500 meters in an NCAA First Round qualifying and Gibraltar National record time of 3:44.31.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Members of the Providence College men's and women's track team competed in their last events this weekend before the NCAA Track & Field First Round begins.

Highlighting Saturday's performances was junior Harvey Dixon (Gibraltar, Gibraltar). Dixon had a breakthrough run in the 1,500 meters at the first of four NB Twilight meets at UMass-Lowell. Dixon was paced by classmate Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) through 1,100 meters and eventually ran 3:44.31. Based on last years' times, Dixon's 3:44.31 was a Gibraltar national record and will qualify him for the NCAA First Round on May 28-30.

In the women's 1,500 meters, graduate-student Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) came away with a fourth-place finish in a time of 4:23.37, while sophomore Emily Bushey (Vernon, N.J.) ran a personal best 4:27.74.

The 800 trio of seniors Caitlin Abelseth (Voorheesville, N.Y.) and Taylor Corder (Corinth, Miss.), and junior Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) were back at it again. Abelseth took the win (2:10.16) with a strong last 100 meters, while Corder finished third in a time of 2:11.17 to cap off the season.

Also this weekend, a group of Providence distance athletes competed at the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Princeton University on Friday, May 15. Freshman Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) sliced nine-seconds off her 3,000 meter steeplechase personal best, running 10:32.05.

In the men's 5,000 meters at the IC4A Championship, senior Liam Hillery (Smithfield, R.I.) finished seventh in a time of 14:16.39, while sophomore Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman Tom O'Neill (Middletown, N.J.) were just behind him in 10th (14:23.25) and 12th (14:24.91).
