PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's track team will have six student-athletes compete at the NCAA Track & Field First Round this week (May 28-30) in Jacksonville, Fla. A total of 48 competitors in the east region are entered in each event, competing for a spot at the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore. on June 10-13.

Junior Harvey Dixon (Gibraltar, Gibraltar) is the first to compete for the men at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday (May 28). After posting a Gibraltar National record (3:44.31) at the New Balance Boston Twilight meet on May 16 in the 1,500 meters, Dixon qualified for the NCAA First Round. To advance to the quarterfinal of the 1,500 meters on Saturday (May 30), Dixon will need to finish in the top-5 of his heat for an automatic bid or be one of the next four fastest individuals.

Also on Thursday, graduate-student Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) will tackle the 10,000 meter-event at 9:00 p.m. Nagel qualified for the event after a third-place finish (34:33.15) at the BIG EAST Championships. With the 10,000 meters being just one race, Nagel will need to finish in the top-12 to move onto Eugene.

Senior Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland), sophomore Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.), freshman Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) and the 2015 NCAA Indoor 5,000 meter champion Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) will all race in the 5,000 meters on Saturday (May 30).

Quinn and Crawley are coming off of second and fourth-place finishes, respectively, in the 10,000 meters at the BIG EAST Championships (May 8-9), while Sisson and Lembo finished first and second, respectively, in the 5,000 meters. Both Sisson and Lembo went unchallenged at the Championship. Additionally, Sisson broke her own BIG EAST meet record (15:40.64) in the race, leading from start to finish to qualify her for the NCAA First Round.

Both 5,000-meter men and women will have to finish in the top-five of their heats for an automatic spot or be one of the next two fastest individuals to advance to the NCAA Championship. The women are set to go off at 8:05 p.m., while the men will race at 8:45 p.m.
