Nagel Advances To NCAA 10,000 Meter Final

Harvey Dixon (1,500 meters) and Laura Nagel (10,000 meters) were the first of the Friars to compete at the NCAA First Round last night in Jacksonville, Fla.



PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Graduate-student Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) and junior Harvey Dixon were the first two of six Friars to compete at the NCAA First Round last night in Jacksonville, Fla.



Nagel punched her ticket to the NCAA Championship to be held in Eugene, Ore. on June 10-13 in the 10,000 meters after she finished eighth among a field of 48 women at Hodges Stadium. She clocked in at 34:11 to secure her spot.



Earlier in the evening, Dixon took to the track in the first of four heats of the 1,500 meters. The race started out tactical with a slow first lap. With one lap to go, Dixon had to hurdle a fallen runner, eventually finishing 10th in his heat.



Up next for the Friars, the 5,000 meter men and women will look to qualify for Eugene on day three (May 30) of the meet. Freshman Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) and the 2015 NCAA Indoor 5,000 meter champion Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) are set to go off at 8:05 p.m., both in the first of two heats, while senior Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) and sophomore Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) will be in heat one and two, respectively, beginning at 8:45 p.m.
