Providence College Men’s And Women’s Cross Country To Compete At Adidas Wisconsin Invitational
The Friars will compete at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Friday, October 16.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Madison, Wis. to compete at the Adidas Wisconsin Invitational on this Friday (Oct. 16). The meet is the most competitive cross country races in the nation outside of the NCAA Championships.

The women head into the race as the third-ranked team in the nation and will take on other top-10 ranked teams, including No. 1 New Mexico, No. 6 Boise State and No. 8 Iowa State. Of the top-25 ranked teams in the nation, 18 are scheduled to race in Madison.

Leading the charge up front for the Friars will be senior Sarah Collins (Basil, Switzerland) and junior Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.). In 2012 and 2013, Collins finished sixth and fifth, respectively, and will look to be competitive up front. Rocha placed 37th in 2013 and will also look to be competitive up front.

Joining Collins and Rocha will be the trio of senior Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) and sophomores Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) and Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.). Like past races this season, this trio will no doubt will be side-by-side in the early stages of the race and look to have an impact over the last mile of the race.

After her strong performance at the Battle-In-Beantown, junior Emily Bushey (Vernon, N.J.) will be back on the startline for the Friars, as will senior Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.). Bushey and Keating will look to improve on their performances from previous races this season in such a large field.

The men also take on a stacked field of teams. Providence will compete against 10 of the 20 top-ranked teams.

Coming off of his fifth-place performance at the Princeton Invitational (Oct. 3), Thomas O’Neill (Middletown, N.J.) will lead the Friars on Friday.

Senior Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) and juniors Hugh Armstrong (Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland) and Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) also will return for Providence. Last time out, these three men all finished within two seconds of one another.

Sophomore Aaron Hanlon (Drogheda, Ireland) and seniors Stephen Robertson (Wakefield, Mass.) and Christian Costello (Ridgewood, N.J.) will step up to the line on Friday. These three will each be looking to claim that Providence top-five spot to round out the scoring.
