Mullins And Rocha Crowned ECAC Champions In Distance Events
Lauren Mullins captured the ECAC 3,000-meter title, while Rocha was crowned the ECAC Champion in the 5,000 meters.

Boston, Mass. - The Providence College men's and women's track teams completed competition today (Mar. 6) at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass. The women's team finished up seventh out of 44 teams with 32 points, while the men placed 15th out of 43 teams with 22 points.

On Saturday (Mar. 5), junior Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) concluded her indoor season after being crowned the ECAC 5,000 meter Champion. Rocha cruised to the finish in a time of 16:05.36, while sophomore Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) grabbed second-place in a time of 16:19.41.

Sunday (Mar. 6) saw another ECAC title for the women. Senior Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) won the 3,000-meters for the second-consecutive year. With a slow first half of the race, Mullins closed in a sub three-minute last kilometer to clock in at 9:25.58 for the win. Sophomore Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) also competed in the 3,000-meters and collected points for the women with a fifth-place finish (9:36.20).

On the men's side, all three of the Providence men entered in the 1,000-meters qualified for the final. Seniors Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) and Harvey Dixon (Gibraltar, Gibraltar), and freshman Michael O'Leary (Melville, N.Y.) finished fourth (2:25.15), fifth (2:25.62) and sixth (2:25.75), respectively.

Graduate-student Jordan Mann (St. Louis, Mo.) also scored points for the Friars with a second-place finish in the mile. Mann crossed the line in a time of 4:03.50.

Graduate-student Liam Hillary (Smithfield, R.I.) closed his final collegiate indoor season with a personal best in the 3,000 meters (8:13.81) and seventh-place finish.

The Friars will return to action for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships next week with seniors Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) competing in the mile and Sarah Collins (Basel, Switzerland) in the 5,000 meters.
