Providence College Men’s and Women’s Track Teams Open Outdoor Track Season At Stony Brook Quad Meet
The Friars dominated in the men’s distance races today in Stony Brook, N.Y.

Stony Brook, N.Y. – The Providence College men’s and women’s track teams competed at the Stony Brook Quad meet to open up the outdoor track season today (March 24).

To highlight the day, the Friars dominated the distance events on the men’s side. Senior Harvey Dixon (Gibraltar, Gibraltar) and freshman Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) grabbed a 1-2 finish in the men’s 1,500 meters. Dixon earned the win, crossing the line in a time of 4:03.55, while Carleo clocked in at 4:03.91 for second-place in his debut for Providence.

In the men’s 3,000 meters, junior Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) took the win with a time of 8:24.43. Providence also swept the top-four spots in the race, with sophomore Aaron Hanlon (Drogheda, Ireland) in second (8:37.03), senior Christian Costello (Ridgewood, N.J.) in third (8:37.63) and freshman Austin Scola (Medfield, Mass.) in fourth (8:37.81).

On the women’s side, sophomore Mackenzie Barry (Mendham, N.J.) took home the title in the 3,000 meters. Barry crossed the line in a time of 10:06.13 for the win.

In the men’s 400 meters, freshman Stephen Farr (Lincroft, N.J.) finished third in a time of 52.53.

Freshman Joseph Hurton (Wakefield, Mass.) placed third in the long jump (5.89 meters), while sophomore John Olayiwola (New Britain, Conn.) also grabbed third-place in the triple jump (13.17 meters).

The men’s team also put an ‘A’ and a ‘B’ squad in the 4x800 meter relay. The ‘B’ team, including Dixon, Carleo, Karamanolis and senior Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.), came away with the win in a time of 7:57.73, while the ‘A’ squad, including senior James Campbell (Cumberland, Maine), sophomore Andrew Doherty (Taunton, Mass.) and freshmen Michael O’Leary (Melville, N.Y.) and Salvatore Flight (Fenwick, Ill.), finished second (8:08.38).

The Friars will return to action on April 1-2 when they travel to Stanford, Calif. for the Stanford Invitational.
