Providence Cross Country Moves Up In Rankings

The women are now ranked third, while the men are ranked 30th.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The USTFCCCA released their latest national rankings on Nov. 1. The new poll saw the women's team move up to third in the nation. The Providence men jumped back into the rankings, taking the 30th spot.

The Cross Country teams both competed at the BIG EAST Championships on Oct. 28th at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. The women defended their title by winning the meet with 36 points and placing four runners in the top eight. This was the third time in the past four years that the women have taken home the BIG EAST title.

Following the win, the Friars moved into the third place ranking with 334 points. Providence now has a one point lead over No. 4 Washington (333 points) and are only three points behind No. 2 NC State (337 points). No. 1 Colorado remained atop the polls with 12 first place votes and 360 points.

The men's team finished in second place at the BIG EAST Championships, their highest finish since 2013 when the team also finished second. The USTFCCCA now has the men ranked 30th in the nation. Previously, the men had been the first team outside of the rankings.

The Friars will race next at the NCAA Northeast Regional meet on Nov. 11, where the teams will look to punch their tickets to nationals.
