Track Competes At Black and Gold Invitational

The Friars had two individual winners on the day.



SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s Track teams competed at the Bryant Black and Gold Invitational on April 2. The Friars raced against Bryant, URI, Bentley, Assumption, Vermont, Central Connecticut, Merrimack, Vermont, and Siena.



Men’s Highlights:



Providence took four of the top six spots in the 5,000 meters. Stephen Robertson (Wakefield, Mass.) won in a time of 14:47.94. Austin Scola (Medfield, Mass.) took second (14:53.15), Marcus Karamanolis (Wellington, New Zealand) took fourth (14:57.74) and Brendan Sullivan (Foxboro, Mass.) took fifth (15:13.61).



James Campbell (Cumberland, Maine) placed third overall in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.13.



Joseph Hurton (Wakefield, Mass.) finished fifth in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 58.95.



John Olayiwola (New Britain, Conn.) placed third in the Triple Jump with a jump of 12.43m



Campbell and Hurton teamed up with Jared Grossi (Warwick, R.I.) and Michael O’Leary (Melville, N.Y.) to finish third in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:25.37.



Women’s Highlights:



The Friars placed three runners in the top six of the women’s 800 meters. Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) was the individual champion with a time of 2:20.05. Bridget Gonzalez (Balitmore, Md.) took second with a time of 2:20.71, while Dara Cuffe (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.) finished sixth with a time of 2:28.59.



In the 1,500 meters, Alexandra DeCicco (Holtsville, N.Y.) took third with a time of 4:40.48 while Lauren Mullins took fifth in a time of 4:42.37.



Mackenzie Barry (Mendham, N.J.) finished fourth in the 5,000 meters with a 17:38.40.



Mariah O’Gara (Taunton, Mass.) finished sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.90.





The Track teams next compete at the Ocean State Invitational on April 15. This will be the one home meet of the year for the Friars.
