STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Providence College men’s and women’s track teams competed at the first day of the BIG EAST Indoor Track Championships at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex on Feb. 24.

In the final of the women’s 5,000 meters, Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) raced to a fifth place finish. Early in the race a group of six separated from the rest of the field. Lembo stuck in amongst the lead group until about 2,000 meters remained when the eventual winner surged and broke up the group. Lembo ran on her own for the majority of the final 2,000 meters and finished fifth with in a time of 16:45.65.

The men’s 5,000 meters featured scoring runs from Hugh Armstrong (Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland) and Aaron Hanlon (Drogheda, Ireland).
