Ilarda and Paladino Excel On First Day of Terrier Invitational




BOSTON, MASS. - The Providence women's Track team competed at the Terrier Invitational on Jan. 27.



Junior Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W.Va.) competed in the first heat of the women's mile. Paladino was part of a group that separated themselves from the rest of the field 200 meters into the race. Paladino had a strong finish to take second in a time of 4:37.53. The time was a four second personal best for Paladino and is the sixth fastest time in the country at this point in the season.



The trio of Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia), Abbey Wheeler (Pine City, N.Y.) and Katie Lembo competed in the first heat of the 3,000 meters. Ilarda took the win in 9:20.62, a seven second personal best for the junior. Illarda's time is also 10th fastest in the nation. Wheeler and Lembo raced together but Wheeler pulled away in the end, taking third in a time of 9:33.61 while Lembo took fourth in a time of 9:36.7.



The Friars also had a notable performance by senior Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). Hollowood competed in the second heat of the 3,000 meters, taking fifth in the heat with a time of 10:01.93.



Junior Liz Dougherty (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and sophomore Dara Cuffe (Cornwall-On-Hudson, N.Y.) raced well in the 1,000 meters. Dougherty finished fourth in her heat with a personal best of 3:04.08 while Cuffe won her heat in a time of 3:05.71.



The Friars return to Boston on Jan. 28 for the second day of the Terrier Invitational.
