Friars Shine In Distance Events at Day Two of the Terrier Invitational

Four Providence athletes raced to personal best times.



BOSTON, MASS. - The Providence men's Track team competed at the Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28.



Sophomore Nicolas Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) competed in the second heat of the men's mile, working his way through the field to take second place in a personal best time of 4:04.45.



The Friars, both past and present, had a strong showing in the 3,000 meters. Graduate student Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand), racing unattached, won the race with a time of 7:54.10. Former Friars Jordan Mann and Brian Doyle both finished closed behind in times of 7:58.04 and 7:58.40, respectively. Both Providence graduates ran times that qualify them for the USAT Track and Field Indoor Championships. Senior Hugh Armstrong (Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland) also raced in the first heat of the 3,000 meters. Armstrong fought to an 11th place finish in a personal best time of 8:15.34.  Seniors Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) and Jake Feinstein (Sandy Hook, Conn.) both had strong races as well. Crawley finished eighth in the third heat in a time of 8:24.00 while Feinstein took fourth in the fourth heat in a time of 8:35.41.



In the 5,000 meters, Providence alum Shane Quinn took home the victory in a time of 14:13.52. Junior Aaron Hanlon (Drogheda, Ireland) also competed in the first heat, racing to a ten second personal best with a time of 14:27.01.



Earlier in the day, senior James Campbell (Cumberland, Maine) finished third in a tightly contested heat of the 800 meters, running a personal best time of 1:54.48.



Providence next competes at the URI Coaches Invitational in Kingston, R.I. on Feb. 4.
