Track Ready To Compete at IC4A/ECAC Championships

The Friars have ten athletes competing at the meet.



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence men’s and women’s Track and Field team will compete at the IC4A and ECAC Championships at Boston University on March 4-5. The Friars have six men and four women competing at the IC4A/ECAC Championships.

Competing on the first day of competition for the men will be James Campbell (Cumberland, Maine) and Michael O’Leary (Melville, N.Y.). Campbell will be racing the prelims of the 800 meters at 11:35 a.m.<calendar:T1:11:35%20a.m.> on March 4. Campbell qualified for the IC4A Championships after running a time of 1:54.48 at the Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He then lowered his qualifying time to 1:53.75 at the Valentine Invitational on Feb. 11.



O’Leary will be racing the prelims of the 1,000 meters at 11:50 a.m.<calendar:T1:11:50%20a.m.> O’Leary qualified for the meet after running a time of 2:28.12 at the URI Sorlien Invitational. At last year’s IC4A Championships, O’Leary finished sixth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:25.75.



Alexandra DeCicco (Holtsville, N.Y.) and Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) will be competing on the first day of the ECAC Championships. Hollowood will be racing in the prelims of the mile at 3:35 p.m.<calendar:T1:3:35%20p.m.> on March 4. Hollowood qualified for the ECAC Championships after running a time of 4:58.19 at the Valentine Invitational on Feb. 10. Hollowood raced in the 3,000 meters at last year’s ECAC Championships where she placed 26th with a time of 10:06.3.



DeCicco will be racing in the prelims of the 1,000 meters at 5:05 p.m.<calendar:T1:5:05%20p.m.> on March 4. DeCicco ran a time of 2:55.79 at the Valentine Invitational on Feb. 10 to qualify. At the BIG EAST Indoor Championships, DeCicco ran on the Distance Medley and 4x800 meter relay teams, helping the teams place second and fifth, respectively.



Hugh Armstrong (Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland), Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.), Aaron Hanlon (Drogheda, Ireland) and Tom O’Neill (Middletown, N.J.) will all compete in the 3,000 meters on March 5. The 3,000 meters will take place at 2:00 p.m.<calendar:T1:2:00%20p.m.>  Armstrong enters the meet with a seed time of 8:15.34. This season, Armstrong has run personal best times in the mile (4:13.96), 3,000 meters (8:15.34) and 5,000 meters (14:06.43). Crawley qualified for the meet after running a time of 8:24.00 at the Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. Crawley lowered his time after finishing eighth with a time of 8:17.30 at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships. Hanlon raced to a time of 8:23.96 at the Terrier Invitational to qualify for the IC4A Championships while O’Neill qualified after racing to a 10th place finish at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships with a time of 8:23.14.



The women’s 3,000 meters will start at 1:40 p.m.<calendar:T1:1:40%20p.m.> on March 5 with both Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) and Abbey Wheeler (Pine City, N.Y.) competing for Providence. Lembo qualified for the ECAC Championships after running a time of 9:30.87 at the Valentine Invitational on Feb. 10. At last year’s ECAC Championships, Lembo finished second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:19.41. Wheeler qualified after racing to a time of 9:33.61 at the Terrier Invitational. This season, Wheeler ran a personal best time in the mile (4:51.15) and also placed sixth in the 3,000 meters at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships, with a time of 9:39.15.
