DeCicco Qualifies For 1,000-Meter Final of ECAC Championships
BOSTON, MASS- The Providence College men’s and women’s Track teams competed at the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Boston University on March 4. The Friars had four athletes compete in preliminary heats on the first day.
Freshman Alexandra DeCicco (Holtsville, N.Y.) highlighted the first day of competition with her race in the 1,000-meter prelims. DeCicco finished fourth in the second heat with a lifetime best time of 2:51.09. Based on her time, DeCicco advanced to the final and will race on the second day of the ECAC Championships.
Senior James Campbell (Cumberland, Maine) also had a strong performance by finishing fourth in his heat of the 800 meters with a lifetime best time of 1:51.89. Campbell missed qualifying for the finals by .46 seconds.
Racing in the 1,000-meter prelims, sophomore Michael O’Leary (Melville, N.Y.) finished sixth in his heat with a season best time of 2:27.82.
Senior Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) raced in the prelims of the mile. Hollowood finished eighth in her heat with a time 5:03.03.
Providence returns for Day Two of the IC4A/ECAC Championships on March 5 for the finals of the women’s 1,000 meters and the men’s and women’s 3,000-meters. The 1,000 will take place at 1:15 p.m. The women’s 3,000-meter race is set to start at 1:40, followed by the men at 2:00.
