Providence Track Set To Host Ocean State Invitational
The Friars will hold their one home meet on Friday, April 13.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s track and field team will host its one home meet of the season on Friday, April 13. The Friars will welcome 14 teams to compete in the Friday night session of the two-day meet with action starting on the Ray Treacy Track at 5:00 p.m.



The Invitational portion of the meet will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will feature seeded sections of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the 800 meters, the mile, and the 5,000-meteres.



The women’s 3,000-meter Steeplechase will be the first invitational race of the day and will feature Columbia’s 2017 All-American Nell Crosby.



Immediately following the women’s steeplechase with be the men’s 3,000-meter Steeplechase at 7:20. Ocean State AC’s Jordan Mann will look to become a three-time winner of the event and break his own facility record of 8:52.36, set in 2016. Mann was an All-American in the event while competing for Providence in 2016.



After the steeplechases will be the 800 meter races. The women’s 800 will feature Stony Brook’s Holly Manning, the 2018 American East Indoor 1,000-meter champion, Boston College’s Molly McCabe, a 2017 NCAA qualifier in the event, and Brown’s Claire Peabody, the facility record holder.



The men’s 800 meters will have two 2017 NCAA qualifiers in Brown’s Zach Emrich and Northeastern’s Marc Rienas. The facility record of 1:48.71 for the event was set by Brown’s Ned Willig in 2016.



The start list for the women’s mile contains four All-Americans including UMASS Amherst’s Heather McClean, Columbia’s Sarah Hardie, Providence’s Catarina Rocha and Millie Paladino, who will be running unattached. The facility record of 4:50.74, held by Brown’s Natalie Schudrowitz, should fall on Friday night.



The men’s mile should also prove to be quick as it features sub-4 miler Nick Ross of NE Distance, two 2017 NCAA qualifiers in Providence’s Nick Carleo and Columbia’s Sam Ritz and facility record holder, NE Distance’s Henry Sterling.



The final two invitational events of the night will be the 5,000 meters. The women’s race will have former William & Mary standout and current NE Distance athlete Dylan Hassett.



The men’s 5,000 meters will see Ocean State AC’s Hugh Armstrong battle Stony Brook’s Dan Connolly and Mitchell Watts, who will be racing unattached. Armstrong had a stellar career while competing for the Friars and was named Providence’s 2017 Male Athlete of the Year.  Connolly is the 2018 America East Indoor 5,000-meter champion while Watts is the 2018 America East Indoor 3,000-meter champion.
