Track Sees Standout Performances At Providence vs. Brown Dual Meet

Freshman Chris Shanahan broke the school record in the javelin.



PROVIDENCE, R.I. -  The Providence College men’s and women’s track & field teams competed at two meets over the weekend, racing at the Holy Cross Invitational (April 21) and the Providence vs. Brown Dual meet (April 22). The Friars saw multiple standout performances.



PROVIDENCE VS. BROWN DUAL MEET HIGHLIGHTS:



Freshman Chris Shananhan (Westwood, Mass.) was one of the highlights of the weekend as he broke the school record in javelin. Shanahan’s best throw was good for 60.36 meters and currently ranks first in the BIG EAST. The throw bested the previous school record of 59.05 meters that was set by Stephen Justus in 2009.



Junior Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) impressed with his performance in the 1,500 meters. Carleo won the race with a new personal best time of 3:45.20. The time currently ranks fifth in the BIG EAST.  Junior Michael O’Leary (St. James, N.Y.) finished second with a time of 3:47.97.



Sophomore Alexandra DeCicco (Holtsville, N.Y.) took home the victory in the women’s 1,500 meters at the dual meet in a time of 4:33.97, winning by a nearly two seconds.



Freshman Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) and freshman David Rosas (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) went 1-2 in the men’s 3,000 meters. White won the meet in a time of 8:24.89 with Rosas not far behind with a time of 8:29.27.



Freshman Ryan Jendezjec won the 400 meters in a time of 50.43.



Freshman Daniel Rooney (Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomore Joseph Hurton (Wakefield, Mass.) finished 1-2 in the 400m Hurdles with times of 56.15 and 56.99, respectively.



HOLY CROSS INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:



DeCicco finished fourth overall in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.12.



Jendezjec finished third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:58.45.



Rooney ran 50.79 to take sixth in the 400 meters.



NEXT RACES:



The Friars will race at Penn Relays over the course of April 26-28.
