Providence Women’s Track and Field Shines in Distance Races at BU Valentine Invitational

Millie Paladino ran the third fastest time in the mile in the NCAA so far this season.



BOSTON, MASS. – The Providence College women’s Track and Field team competed at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Friday, Feb. 9. The day was highlighted by the Friars’ performances in the distance events.



Senior Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.) had the race of the day for Providence. Paladino competed in the first heat of the women’s mile, racing amongst some of the top collegiate and professional runners. The pace quick from the very start of the race and Paladino found herself running in the second group. Closing hard over the final few laps, Paladino would run a large personal best time of 4:31.98. The time is the third fastest in the NCAA this season and the second fastest in school history.



Graduate student Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.)  was the other standout for Providence. Rocha raced in the fastest section of the women’s 3,000 meters. Rocha competed within the lead group for the entirety of the race and finished 6th with a time of 9:20.34. She was the second fastest collegiate of the day. Sophomore Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) also raced in the top heat, finishing with a time of 9:36.41.



Earlier in the day, Alexandra DeCicco (Sachem, N.Y.) ran a time of 2:53.73 in the third heat of the 1,000 meters to finish 19th overall.



The Valentine Invitational continues on Saturday, Feb. 10 with the men’s races.
