Brianna Ilarda Wins Words Unlimited Co-Female Athlete Of The Year
The senior distance runner won the award for her performance over the 2017 year.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -  Words Unlimited, the Rhode Island statewide organization of sportswriters, sportscasters, and sports publicists announced Providence College senior Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) as the co-Female Athlete of the Year for her performance over the 2017 calendar year.

Ilarda had a stellar 2017 year that saw her earn two First Team All-American honors. Ilarda finished seventh in the indoor 5,000 meters and eighth in the outdoor 3,000-meter Steeplechase. The year also saw Ilarda become the first woman to repeat as 3,000-meter Steeplechase champion at the Penn Relays.

Ilarda earned four All-BIG EAST honors over the course of the year, highlighted by her performance at the outdoor BIG EAST Championships. Ilarda repeated as the 3,000-meter Steeplechase champion and set the BIG EAST Championship record in the event.

Ilarda also achieved the “B” standard for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She will race at the Australian Track and Field championships and attempt to earn her spot on the Australian national team.

Words Unlimited will hold its 72nd annual Sports Awards Banquet on Sunday, March 4 at the Cranston Country Club, 69 Burlingame Rd, Cranston. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

A silent auction also will be held to support the Words Unlimited Scholarship Fund. Cash and checks are accepted for all items.
