Providence Track Wins Two Titles On Second Day Of ECAC/IC4A Championships
The Friars won titles in the women’s 3,000 meters and men’s distance medley relay.

BOSTON, MASS. – The Providence College men’s and women’s track & field team competed at the second day of the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Boston University on Sunday, March 4. The day was highlighted by the Friars’ performances in the women’s 3,000 meters and the men’s distance medley relay.

Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) took home the 3,000-meter title as she claimed victory with a time of 9:28.07. Wheeler is the first Providence woman to win the ECAC 3,000-meter title since Lauren Mullins ’16 won back to back titles in 2015-16. Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) ran a time of 9:54.08 to finish 15th overall in the event.

The team of Michael O’Leary (St. James, N.Y.), Joseph Hurton (Wakefield, Mass.), Jack Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) and Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) won the tightly contested distance medley relay race. The race came down to the final few meters, with Providence taking the win with a time of 9:46.17 over Columbia University’s 9:46.25. It is Providence’s first distance medley relay title since setting the meet record in 2009.

Aaron Hanlon (Drogheda, Ireland) also competed in the men’s 3,000 meters. He finished 20th overall with a time of 8:22.63.

Providence’s indoor season will conclude at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 9-10 at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
