Men will be tested by four nationally ranked competitors in Bethlehem, Pa.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's cross country team will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. on Friday, September 28 to compete in the famed Paul Short Invitational hosted by LeHigh University. The men’s 8K is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.

Last year at Paul Short the men placed sixth overall in a field of 45 teams.

At their last meet, the Friar men took second, finishing with 47 points. No. 1 Wisconsin took first. Sophomore Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) led the way with a first-place individual finish ahead of a pack of five Badgers who led Wisconsin to finish with 20 points. Ten Friars will be competing this week, including Quinn.

Two top-10 finishers from Stony Brook, senior Ahmed Ali (Boston, Mass.) and sophomore Liam Hillery (Smithfield, R.I.) will be among the Friars competing at the event. Ali and Hillery placed ninth and tenth, respectively at Stony Brook. Freshman Christian Costello (Ridgewood, N.J.) and sophomore Benjamin Connor (Derby, England) rounded out the top-five for the Friars on that day, and will join Quinn, Ali and Hillery at the starting gates on Friday.

Seniors Alex Wallace (Waipukurau, New Zealand) and Eric Malnati (Walpole, N.H.), junior Jonathan Hopkins (Bridgend, Wales), sophomore Luke Perron (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) also will be running at the Paul Short Invitational.

SCOUTING THE FIELD: Among the field of 37 that the Friars will be competing against are four nationally ranked squads, including No. 15 Georgetown, No. 17 Princeton, No. 22 Villanova and No. 28 Columbia. For Villanova, this will be the Wildcats first scored event of the season. Columbia will be looking for a challenge after sweeping the Vermont Invitational with 13 of the top-15 finishers.
