Providence College Cross Country Bids Set For NCAA Showdown

Both the men and the women will be traveling to Indiana for the NCAA Championships.


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams will both compete at the NCAA Division I Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind. The women notched the automatic bid with a victory at the Northeast Regional Championships yesterday (Nov. 15), while the men earned an at large bid today (Nov. 16). The final 31 teams for both the men and the women were announced today by the NCAA selection committee.


The men were one of 13 teams to be given an at large bid. With the bid, the men's team will be advancing to the national championships for the 40th time in the history of the program. Only six other teams in the nation have reached the championships more times than Providence. This season, the men have captured three team wins as well as a second-place finish at the BIG EAST Championships (Nov. 2).


After their second consecutive win at the regional championships, the women will be advancing to the NCAA Championships for the 24th time in the program's history. Last year, the women's team was runner-up at the championships. This season, the women have put together an impressive body of work, with sixth team victories on the season, including capturing the BIG EAST Championship (Nov. 2).
