Providence College Women’s Cross Country Takes On Reigning National Champions
The Friars will face a tough field of competitors with three other ranked teams.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women’s cross country team will look to compete at the Boston College Invitational at Franklin Park, Mass. on Friday, Sept. 27. The 5k race will be have a start time of 3:30 p.m.
Last time out, the Friars earned a win over Columbia, Marist and Stony Brook at the Stony Brook Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14 for their second consecutive first place finish with a top-three sweep.
The Friars will face a strong field of competitors, including the 2012 Division I NCAA Cross Country Champions, third-ranked Oregon. Providence will also face ninth-ranked Cornell and 24th-ranked Boston College. Joining the tough competition is Bucknell, Hartford, John Hopkins, New Hampshire, Northeastern, Rhode Island, Stony Brook, UMass Amherst, Wisconsin and Yale.
Sixteen competitors will represent Providence at the Boston College Invitational. Two freshmen, Bryanna Allison (Lowell, Mass.) and Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.), will join sophomores Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland), Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.), Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.), Kathleen Powell (Wrentham, Mass.), and Katie Sischo (Jamesville, N.Y.) for Friday’s race.
Juniors Caile Kohlbrenner (Sparkhill, N.Y.) and Julie Solimine (Haverhill, Mass.) along with seniors Elizabeth DeVivo (Riverside, Conn.), Molly McCann (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Erin Murphy (Easton, Mass.), Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand), Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.), and Grace Thek (Melbourne, Australia) will also be competing Friday.
"We are excited for the meet on Friday," Head Coach Ray Treacy shared on the big meet. "It will be a really good indicator for where we stand and a chance to start accumulating points."
The meet will kick off the start of the qualifying period for teams to start collecting points for the Division I Cross Country National Championships to be held in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 23.
