Providence College Men's Track Earns College's First Wins On The Ray Treacy Track

The Friars posted four IC4A qualifying times as well as taking wins in eight events on the day.



PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's track and field team hosted the program's first meet on the newly constructed track today, April 9. The Friars raced against Bryant and Stony Brook at the Ray Treacy Track at Providence College. Providence took top-finishes in eight events on the day against the Bulldogs and Seawolves.



The Friars came out flying in the 3000 meter run, where Providence took the top-six places. Juniors Benjamin Connor (Derby, England), Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) and Liam Hillery (Smithfield, R.I.) took first through third, respectively. Connor finished in a time of 8:16.25, while Quinn and Hillery ran times of 8:17.03 and 8:23.07, respectively.



Following the junior trio was freshman Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.), who claimed fourth in a time of 8:31.13. Sophomore Christian Costello (Ridgewood, N.J.) was fifth in a time of 8:31.56 and freshman Jake Feinstein (Sandy Hook, Conn.) was sixth with a time of 8:32.81.



Providence took one and two in the 1500 meter run with graduate student Julian Saad (Trumbull, Conn.) and junior Brian Doyle (Swansea, Mass.). Saad finished first with a time of 3:52.06, while Doyle was second in a time of 3:57.55.



The Friars also had success in the 800 meter run, where a trio of sophomores took the top-three spots. Classmates Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England), Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) and Joseph Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) finished first through third, respectively. Dixon and Oakley nabbed IC4A Championship qualifying times of 1:51.05 and 1:51.80, respectively, while Vercollone finished in a time of 1:52.12.



Senior Nik Andrews (Clarksburg, Mass.) and sophomore Austin King (Kempton, Pa.) claimed first-place finishes in their respective races. In the 100 meter dash, Andrews was the top finisher with a time of 11.53, while placing second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.36. King ran first-place finishes in the 200 and 400 meter dashes with times of 23.02 and 48.99, respectively.



Field specialist, junior Phil Reid (Oceanport, N.J.) claimed first in the men's high jump with a cleared height of 1.93m.



The Friars finished the meet with a victory in the 4 x 800 meter relay with a time of 7:57.25.



Providence defeated both Stony Brook (80-25) and Bryant (80-38) to earn the program's first wins on the newly constructed Ray Treacy Track.



The Friars will return to action with the Penn Relays from April 24-26 in Philadelphia, Pa.
