Providence College Women's Track Claims Eight Top Finishes At First Friar Invitational

Collins and Nagel post PRs and ECAC Championship times in front of a home crowd.



PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's track and field team hosted the first Friar Invitational on the newly constructed Ray Treacy Track at Providence College today (April 12). The Friars claimed first-place in eight events on the day. Providence saw sophomore Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland) and senior Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) post personal-best performances.



In the 3000 meter, Collins claimed first after posting an ECAC Championship qualifying performance with a personal-best time of 9:19.77. Collins was followed by freshman Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) and graduate student Samantha Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.), who both also posted ECAC qualifying times. Rocha finished second (9:46.80), while Roeker finished third (9:51.58).



Nagel led Providence in the 1500 meter run with an ECAC qualifying and personal-best time of 4:20.86 to claim first. Later in the day, Nagel led Providence to a first-place finish in the 4 x 800 meter relay after overtaking a Stony Brook runner to nab the lead in the final two laps. The Friars finished the relay in a time of 9:20.06.



Sophomores Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Lauren Basile (Watertown, Mass.) also claimed first in their respective events. Keating finished first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:11.73, while Basile took first-place finishes in the 100 (12.72) and 200 (26.64) meter dashes.



The Friars' 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay teams also claimed first-place finishes on the day. In the 100 meter relay Providence finished in a time of 50.91, while in the 400 meter relay the Friars finished in a time of 4:02.41.



Providence defeated both Stony Brook (76-38) and Bryant (81-35) to earn the program's first wins on the newly constructed Ray Treacy Track.



The Friars will return to action with the Penn Relays from April 24-26 in Philadelphia, Pa.
