Emily Sisson Leads Providence College Women's Indoor Track To 5000 Meter Crown
Sisson finished first in the 5000 meter run and was followed by classmate Nagel.

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Providence College women’s indoor track and field team competed at the BIG EAST Championships today (Feb. 21) at the Armory Track in New York City. The Friars claimed first in the 5000 meter run as well as second for the program’s first indoor 5000 meter BIG EAST Title since 2007 (Aine Hoban).

Seniors Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) and Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) captured one and two, respectively, in the 5000 meter run. Both Sisson and Nagel finished the race in ECAC Championship qualifying times of 16:08.01 and 16:08.34, respectively.

Sisson and Nagel were joined by classmate Erin Murphy (Easton, Mass.) and graduate student Samantha Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) in the 5000 meter run, where the two also posted ECAC Champsionship qualifying times. Roecker finished sixth with a time of 16:58.07, while Murphy finished 11th in a time of 17:23.33.

With the win, Sisson now holds BIG East Championship indoor titles in the 3,000 (2013) and 5,000 (2014) meter runs. The Friars now hold 24 BIG EAST Individual Indoor Championship titles.

Four Friars also competed in the distance medley, where they finished fourth in an ECAC Championship qualifying time of 11:48.87. Senior Grace Thek (Melbourne, Australia), juniors Caitlin Abelseth (Voorheesville, N.Y.) and Devyn Pryor (Dartmouth, Mass.) as well as sophomore Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) represented the Friars in the distance medley.

Providence concluded the day tied in third (26 points) with DePaul.

The Friars will continue with BIG EAST Championship competition tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Armory Track in New York.
