Nagel Captures Second BIG EAST Indoor Title Of Weekend For Providence Women's Track
Nagel finishes first with Sisson on her heels for a close second-place finish.

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Providence College women's indoor track and field team completed competition at the BIG EAST Championships yesterday, Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Armory Track in New York City.

The highlight of the day was in the 3000 meter run, where senior Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) captured her first indoor BIG EAST title. Nagel finshed first in the 3000 meter race with a time of 9:07.26, while classmate Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) finished second on the heels of Nagel with a time of 9:09.35. Senior Grace Thek (Melbourne, Australia) was eighth with a time of 9:43.36, while graduate student Samantha Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) was ninth with a time of 9:44.54. All four runners bested the ECAC Championship qualifying standard of 9:58.94.

With the win, the Friars captured two individual titles at the BIG EAST indoor championships this weekend. It marks the first time Providence has captured more than one title on the women's side since 2006, when Mary Cullen '06 captured both the 3000 and 5000 meter indoor titles.

In the 1000 meter run, sophomore Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) finished sixth with a time of 2:50.50. Keating's time was a personal best and an ECAC Championship qualifying time. Keating was joined by senior Elizabeth DeVivo (Riverside, Conn.) and freshman Sarah Hammond (Essex, Conn.), who finished eighth and 10th, respectively. Hammond's time was a personal best performance.

The Friars went five through seven in the one mile run to collect nine points toward their overall team score. Sophomore Katelyn Sischo (Jamesville, N.Y.) finished fifth in a time of 5:13.49, while classmate Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) was seventh with a time of 5:17.85. Freshman Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, NY.) finished moments ahead of Mullins for sixth-place with a time of 5:17.29.

Providence took fifth in the 4x800 meter relay en route to capturing four points for the team's overall score. Keating was joined by freshman Bryanna Allison (Lowell, Mass.), junior Devyn Pryor (Dartmouth, Mass.) and senior Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.) in the 4 x 400 relay, where the four finished in a time of 8:29.43.

The Friars finished sixth overall with 64 points, the women's best finish since 1992, when they captured 5th overall.

The Friars will return to action on Feb. 28 through March 1, when they travel to Boston, Mass. for the New England Championships. The meet will begin on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
