Providence College Men's Track Begins BIG EAST Championship Competition
Doyle finished third in the 10,000 meter run.
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Providence College men's track and field team began competition at the BIG EAST Championships in Villanova, Pa. today (May 10). The Friar's top-finisher was junior Brian Doyle (Swansea, Mass.) in the 10,000 meter run.
Doyle finished third overall with an IC4A Championship qualifying time of 30:18.90. Freshman Hugh Armstrong (Balina County Mayo, Ireland) also competed in the 10,000 meter run, where he posted a personal-record time of 31:22.18.
In the 400 meter dash, sophomore Austin King (Kempton, Pa.) finished fourth to qualify for the finals, to take place tomorrow. King's time of 48.37 was a personal-best. Classmate Kevin Olsen (Marlboro, N.J.) also posted a personal-best performance in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.66.
Junior Phillip Reid (Oceanport, N.J.) captured fifth in the high jump with a jump of 1.99m.
The Friars finished the day in seventh overall with a score of 10 points. The Friars will return to action tomorrow (May 11) in the final day of competition at the BIG EAST Championships.
