Providence College Men’s and Women’s Track Opens Indoor Season
Jordan Mann and Sarah Collins highlighted the weekend’s performance in the distance events.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s track teams opened the indoor track season over the weekend after traveling to Fordham, N.Y. for the Fordham Invitational Dec. 4 and the Boston University Opener in Boston, Mass. on Dec. 5.

Graduate-student Jordan Mann (St. Louis, Mo.) highlighted Saturday’s meet after placing second in the 5,000 meters in a blistering 13:53.29. Mann’s time marks the fourth fastest 5,000 meters all-time by a Providence runner.

Senior Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) captured the win in the 3,000 meters in Boston. Oakley cruised to the finish in a time of 8:17.41, eight seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

On the women’s side, senior Sarah Collins (Basel, Switzerland) carried her cross country fitness into the 5,000 meters on Saturday afternoon. Collins finished fourth amongst strong field with a time of 15:45.58. Senior Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) also competed in the race, finishing eighth in a personal best time of 16:14.79.

At the Fordham Invitational, six Friars earned top-3 finishes in their respective events:
Angelica Kartsounis: 800 meters, 3rd, 2:20.98
Devyn Pryor: Mile , 2nd, 5:12.32
Paige Santos: High Jump, 2nd, 1.57 meters
Joseph Vercollone: 800 meters, 1st, 1:54.90
Stephen Robertson: Mile, 1st, 4:25.74
Brian Zied: 60 meter hurdles, 2nd, 9.07
