Providence’s Emily Sisson Crowned NCAA 5,000 Meter Champion
Sisson finished the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:32.15 for the NCAA title.

Fayetteville, Ark. – Providence College graduate-student Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) was crowned the 2015 NCAA 5,000 meter Indoor Champion today (Friday, March 13) at the Randal Tyson Center in Fayetteville, Ark. The title marks Sisson’s first ever NCAA title and is the first title a Providence College track athlete has won since Danette Doetzel claimed her 10,000 meter NCAA outdoor title in 2009.

Sisson went into the race as the favorite after breaking former Friar Kim Smith’s NCAA 5,000 meter indoor record (2004) at the BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 28. Sisson looked dominant from the start of the race, finishing in a time of 15:32.15, eight-seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

With day one of the Championships in the books, Sisson will now look to claim another NCAA title as she competes in the 3,000 meters tomorrow (Saturday, March 14) at 9:00 p.m. EST. The event will be streamed live on ESPN3.
