Providence Men’s and Women’s Track Set To Compete At 2015 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship

The Friars will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete at the 2015 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, hosted by Villanova, on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9.


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s track team will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete at the 2015 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, hosted by Villanova, on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9.

The men’s team will kick-off competition with senior Phil Reid (Oceanport, N.J.) competing in the first event of the weekend. He will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the decathlon. At the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Feb. 28-Mar. 1, Reid placed second in the heptathlon with 4,323 points for a school record.

Later in the evening, seniors Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) and Liam Hillery (Smithfield, R.I.), and sophomore Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) will tackle the 10,000 meters. At the BIG EAST Indoor Championships, Quinn placed second in the 5,000 meters, while Crawley ran a 14:13.30 5,000 meters earlier in the season at the Raleigh Relays. The men’s 10,000 meters will begin at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.

On the final day of the championships, junior Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, England) will race in the 1,500 meters. Last time out, Dixon competed at the Princeton Open in the 1,500 meters, finishing in a time of 3:48.49. The final of the 1,500 is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The men’s 5,000 meters will feature sophomore Hugh Armstrong (Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland) and freshman Tom O’Neill (Middletown, N.J.). Armstrong is coming off of a solid sub-30 minutes 10,000 meter performance (29:55.00) at the Penn Relays.

On the women’s side, sophomore Emily Bushey (Vernon, N.J.) is first up on the track on Friday. Bushey will compete in the 1,500 meters which is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. With a personal-best time of 4:28.97 from the Raleigh Relay’s, she will look to qualify for the final on Saturday which is set for a 1:20 p.m. start.

The 800-meter trio of seniors Taylor Corder (Corinth, Miss.) and Caitlin Abelseth (Voorheesville, N.Y.), and junior Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) will take to the track for trials at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Corder and Abelseth both recently ran personal-best times of 2:11.04 and 2:10.28, respectively at the Brown Springtime Invitational on April 26. The final for the 800-meters is scheduled for 2:40 p.m. on Saturday.

After her 3,000-meter steeplechase debut at the Brown Springtime Invitational on April 26, freshman Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) will race the steeplechase again at BIG EAST. She will be joined by senior Caile Kohlbrenner (Sparkill, N.Y.) and sophomore Keelin Hollwood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

For the final event on Friday night, graduate-student Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) and freshman Mackenzie Barry (Mendham, N.J.) will take to the track for the 10,000 meters. The race will begin at 7:00 p.m.

To wrap up competition on Saturday, 2015 NCAA Indoor 5,000 meter Champion and record holder Emily Sisson will run in the 5,000 meters at 3:40 p.m. Sisson will look to claim her seventh BIG EAST title. Freshman Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) will also race in the 5,000 meters.
