BOSTON, MASS. – The Providence College women’s track and field team competed at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Friday, February 10. The meet was highlighted by outstanding performances in the distance events.

Providence had the most impressive showing in the Mile. Entering the weekend, junior Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.) was ranked 13th in the NCAA with a time of 4:37.53. Paladino ran a great race and finished as the top collegiate and fifth overall. Paladino’s time of 4:34.49 is the second fastest in the NCAA this season. Paladino's time is the third fastest in Providence history behind Olympians Kim Smith and Marie McMahon. Junior Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) also had a strong race in the second heat. Illarda, competing in the mile for the first time since finishing second in the event at the 2016 BIG EAST Indoor Championships, slowly moved through the field to take the win with a personal best time of 4:43.25. Freshman Abbey Wheeler (Pine City, N.Y.) and senior Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) also had strong races in the mile as both set personal bests in their respective heats. Wheeler finished fifth in heat three while Hollowood finished second in heat five, with times of 4:51.05 and 4:58.19, respectively.
