Paladino and Ilarda Set To Compete at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

Paladino will be competing in the mile while Ilarda will race in the 5,000 meters.

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – The Providence College women’s Track team has two athletes competing at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas on March 10-11. Juniors Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.)  will compete in the mile while Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) will race in the 5,000 meters.



Paladino is the first woman to compete in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2006. Paladino is the 13th woman to compete in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships, joining Meghan Owen (2006), Fiona Crombie (2004), Deirdre Byrne (2003), Roisin McGettigan (2002, 2003), Susan Murnane (1997), Amy Rudolph (1994*, 1995), Sinead Delahunty (1992), Anita Philpott (1991, 1992), Siobhan Gallagher (1990), Geraldine Nolan (1990, 1991), Natalie Davey (1991), and Geraldine Hendricken (1989, 1990).  Entering the meet, Paladino is seeded ninth with a time of 4:34.49 and will compete in the first of two preliminary heats on March 10. Paladino’s race is set to start at 6:30 p.m. ET.



Ilarda looks to continue the tradition of outstanding Providence distance running. Providence has had a woman compete in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Championships each year since 2013. Ilarda will be the 11th woman to compete in the 5,000 meters, joining Sarah Mary Collins (2016), Emily Sisson (2013, 2014, 2015*), Danette Doetzel (2008, 2009), Aine Hoban (2007), Katie DiCamillo (2007), Mary Cullen (2006), Kim Smith (2004*), Sarah Dupre (1998, 1999), Marie McMahon (1995, 1996*, 1998) and Tina Maloney (1989).  Ilarda enters the meet seeded 12th with a time of 15:55.91. The final of the 5,000 meters will start at 9:00 p.m. ET.



The meet will be streamed live on ESPN3 with coverage starting at 6:25 p.m. on Day 1 and 4:55 p.m. on Day 2.  Be sure to follow @FriarsXCTrack for live updates from the meet.
