BOSTON, MASS. – The Providence College men’s Track and Field team competed at the Boston University Terrier Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27. The men’s best performances came in the distance events at the Terrier Invitational.

Both juniors Michael O’Leary (St. James, N.Y.) and Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) had strong races in the mile. O’Leary, after finding himself in the lead after the first lap, pushed the pace in his heat and led for the first five laps. In the end, it would come down to a battle over the final 200 meters with O’Leary taking second in a personal best time of 4:06.8.

Carleo raced in heat two of the mile where he was forced to make a move early on the race after a group broke away from the field. Carleo would finish eighth in his heat with a time of 4:07.29.

Both graduate student Trevor Crawley (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman Kevin Quinn (Needham, Mass.) won their respective heats in the 3,000 meters. After patiently biding his time, Crawley made his move with 600 meters remaining in his heat. He would power away from the rest of the field to win comfortably in a time of 8:21.49.

Quinn employed nearly the same tactics in his heat as he claimed the lead in the final two laps and held on to win in a personal best time of 8:40.07.

Other Notable Performances:

-Jack Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) had the eighth fastest time of the day in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:28.42. Ryan Jendzejec (Chappaqua, N.Y.) also had a solid performance running 2:30.70.

-Senior Aaron Hanlon (Drogheda, Ireland) and junior Austin Scola (Medfield, Mass.) ran the eighth (14:32.59) and 15th (14:44.60) best times of the day in the 5,000 meters.

Both the men and women’s next race will be at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9-10.
