Track’s Carleo Qualifies for the Next Round of the 1,500m at the First Round of NCAA Championships
The junior earned a time qualifier after finishing seventh in his heat.

TAMPA, FLA. – The Providence College track team competed on the first day of the first round of the NCAA Championships on Thursday, May 24 in Tampa, Fla. The lone competitor on the day for the Friars was junior Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) in the preliminary heats of the 1,500 meters.

Carleo raced in the first preliminary heat and positioned himself towards the back of the field. He would remain in the back for the majority of the race, waiting for the break to happen. Carleo used a strong kick over the final 300 meters to move through the field and finish seventh in his heat with a time of 3:46.26. Carleo moves on to the next round after having the second fastest non-automatic time of the day.

The semi-final of the 1,500 meters will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 26. To qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Carleo must finish top five in his heat or have one of the next two fastest times.
